history
Until the 19th century
Neusorg was founded around 1535. Mining was carried out there from the middle of the 17th century until 1854 . Until then, the place was a small settlement, only with the construction of the Nuremberg – Cheb railway did rapid development begin.
Starting with the church planting
Originally, Neusorg was not the seat of the municipality, but the place Schwarzenreuth. However, mainly through the construction of the railway and through refugees after the Second World War, Neusorg had a much larger population than Schwarzenreuth. On September 17, 1949, the previous community of Schwarzenreuth was renamed Neusorg.
Territorial reform
Before the territorial reform of the 1970s, Neusorg belonged to the district of Kemnath and, in addition to the main town, consisted of the districts of Schurbach, Schwarzenreuth, Stockau, Stöcken (north) and Laundry.
On January 1, 1978, the previously independent community Riglasreuth was incorporated. On May 1, 1978 Wernersreuth followed from the dissolved municipality of Oberwappenöst . On January 1, 1978 Neusorg ceded most of the scattered settlement of Schurbach with around 100 inhabitants to the town of Waldershof .
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018, the population fell from 2164 to 1926 by 238 or 11%.
Religions
Most of the residents of Neusorg are Catholic . The first clergyman came to Neusorg on August 1, 1930 (Expositus Josef Losch). On September 1, 1946, the foundation stone of the parish church was laid, which is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God . There is also a small Protestant church in the village.
