Moik as a moderator

1973 moderated Moik for the ORF - Upper Austria in broadcasting the show Folk hit parade , which was an audience favorite soon. In the mid-1970s, the German ARD approached ORF. Together they looked for a format for a show with small talk and folk music. This concept was finally implemented in the Musikantenstadl , which has been broadcast on Austrian television since 1981 and also on German television from 1983. Moik took over the moderation, the show was supplemented from 1981 to 1991 by interludes of the "funny hias ". This is how Karl Moik became known to an audience of millions. Together with the Swiss television DRS , the Musikantenstadl was broadcast in co-production with ORF and ARD during prime time. Moik has also made several guest appearances abroad with the Musikantenstadl, including in South Africa and China . The Musikantenstadl also went on tour, mostly in German-speaking countries, without these events being recorded for television. On June 21, 2005, ARD and ORF announced the separation from Moik. The contract was not extended by two years, and the Musikantenstadl was occupied by Andy Borg from autumn 2006 .

In addition to the Musikantenstadl, Karl Moik also moderated the Austrian preliminary decision for the Grand Prix of Folk Music and, with his colleagues Carolin Reiber and Sepp Trütsch , the international event of the three countries.

Moik hosted the Silvesterstadl for the last time on December 31, 2005 . During the almost five-hour live broadcast, there were circulatory disorders in the brain , which caused Moik to feel exhausted and, following the broadcast on January 1, 2006, led to a fit of weakness. The then 67-year-old was brought to the neurological intensive care unit of the LKH Klagenfurt, which he was able to leave on January 9th.

From June to September 2006 Moik moderated the travel magazine Rund um die Welt on ORF-Radio Salzburg on Saturdays .

For indignation at Stalinist persecution made in November 2006, his statement in an interview with the Hamburger Abendblatt in which he parallels between himself and Stalin stated: "He [Stalin] was in school not the best. And he had to fight his way through many intrigues with hard work. "

His designation of Italians as "spaghetti eaters" in the Musikantenstadl broadcast from Vienna in 2004 also made waves. After a song by Patrick Lindner partly sung in Italian, Moik had said: "I invite you to Vienna, and what do you sing? About the spaghetti-eaters!" In a television program he explained this statement with the effects of narcotics, saying that he was not in control of his senses. Moik had three aortocoronary bypasses after a heart attack.

As a diabetic, he campaigned for the “Chance in Diabetes” foundation as an ambassador for lifestyle changes for type 2 diabetics.

Moik as a singer

In his show Musikantenstadl Moik also appeared as a singer. Well-known songs from him are yes, today we want to celebrate , every day, I need a little more , the little bit of happiness , it's all about money and hello, pfüat god and goodbye .

He made his television debut in 2000 as a coroner in the Tatort once a day on ARD , and in 2008 he played his next television role as mayor in the Degeto musical comedy “ Das Musikhotel am Wolfgangsee ”. In the summer of 2008 Moik also worked for the “Bastei Collection” in six feature films that Couchkino GmbH produced in cooperation with ZDF Enterprises. As part of the film series “The most beautiful love films of all time”, the first season was to be broadcast for the first time in 2009. Another six films should be made in summer 2009.
