from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grand Prix of Folk Music was an annual folk music competition that took place from 1986 to 2010 and was initiated by Sepp Trütsch . Initially only artists from Germany , Austria and Switzerland took part. South Tyrol has also been taking part in this competition since 2000 and had won the competition five times in these eleven years. Switzerland is the record winner with a total of eight victories.

This Grand Prix was organized as a co-production by ORF , ZDF , SF DRS and Rai Sender Bozen by the “Working Group for the Promotion of Musical Entertainment” (in Austria chaired by Günter Tolar ). On September 15, 2010, the broadcasting stations announced the end of the Grand Prix due to the low ratings.
