Grand Prix of Folk Music 2002
The 17th Grand Prix of Folk Music took place on September 7, 2002 in Merano ( South Tyrol ) and was thus a guest in Italy for the first time in its history. As in the two previous years , the participating countries were Germany , Austria , Switzerland and South Tyrol. In each country a public preliminary decision was made on television. Four titles each were determined for the final. The South Tyrolean preliminary decision took place on March 21st in Merano, the Swiss on April 13th in Zurich , the German on May 30th in Hof (moderation: Carolin Reiber ) and the Austrian on June 16th in Vienna (moderation: Wolfram Pirchner ) . The events, for which a CD was released with all participants, were broadcast live.
The final was broadcast by RAI Bolzano as part of a Eurovision program from Merano and taken over by ZDF , ORF and SRG . The moderators were Carolin Reiber (Germany) and the singer of the Kastelruther Spatzen from South Tyrol, Norbert Rier , who won the 1990 Grand Prix of Folk Music with his group . The starting order of the titles and countries had been drawn beforehand. After the titles were presented, viewers from the participating countries were able to choose their favorite via TED.
At the end of the evaluation, the Nockalm Quintet and Stephanie were the winners of the Grand Prix of Folk Music 2002. Her title There on Cloud 7 was composed by Marc Bell and Dagmar Obernosterer wrote the lyrics. For the first time since 1993, the group brought victory of the Grand Prix to Austria.
Rust was chosen as the venue for the next Grand Prix of Folk Music in 2003 , regardless of the country of the winner .
