Grand Prix of Folk Music 1989
The fourth Grand Prix of Folk Music took place on July 1, 1989 in Linz ( Austria ). As in previous years , the participating countries were Germany , Austria and Switzerland . For the first time in each country a public preliminary decision was carried out on television. Five titles were determined for the final. The Swiss preliminary decision took place on March 27th in Interlaken , the German on April 20th in Leverkusen and the Austrian on May 18th in Hollabrunninstead of. The events, for which a CD was released with all participants, were broadcast live.
The finale was broadcast by ORF as part of a Eurovision broadcast from Linz and taken over by ZDF and SRG . The moderators were again Carolin Reiber (Germany), Karl Moik (Austria) and Sepp Trütsch (Switzerland), who already led through the respective preliminary decisions in their country. The starting order of the titles and countries had been drawn beforehand. After the title was presented, several juries from the participating countries determined their favorite, although the titles from their own country were not allowed to be rated.
At the end of the ranking, Stefan Mross was the winner of the 1989 Grand Prix of Folk Music. His title Heimwehmelodie, played on the trumpet, was composed by Wolfgang Lindner and Walter Schwanzer . Austria had thus also won the competition for the first time after Switzerland (twice) and Germany in the previous year.
Saarbrücken was chosen as the venue for the next Grand Prix of Folk Music in 1990 , regardless of the country of the winner .
