Werner Brüggemann (born February 25, 1936 in Hamburg ; † August 12, 1997 in Puchenau ) was an Austrian composer , musician and music teacher .

Life

Werner Brüggemann was born in Hamburg in 1936. He took accordion lessons from Heinz Funk and piano lessons from Erich Kraut. At the age of 18 he was already teaching at the conservatory in Hamburg-Harburg. After his state examination he went to Austria and after a short time took on Austrian citizenship.

Brüggemann pursued a wide range of activities, for example he was a music teacher in the music school of the city of Linz and in his own music school. He was also production manager at ORF and various record companies and played as a soloist in various international orchestras.

One of his most famous compositions is the waltz Mühlviertler Land (Dreams of Linz on the Danube) , which numerous folk music groups have interpreted and which has long since become a folk song.

His focus was on brass music. Brüggemann's brass music compositions have been performed worldwide. A large part of his compositions were published by the self-publisher "Edition Donauton", which he founded in 1989 with his wife.

On August 12, 1997, Brüggemann died of leukemia in Puchenau, where he had lived, apart from brief interruptions, since he came to Austria.
