Puchenau is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Urfahr-Umgebung district in the upper Mühlviertel with 4477 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) west of Linz . The community is located in the judicial district of Urfahr .

geography

Puchenau lies at an altitude of 262  m above sea level. A. in the upper Mühlviertel on the north bank of the Danube , west of the Linz basin, four kilometers from the center of the state capital. The extension is 4.2 km from north to south and 4.1 km from west to east. The total area is 8.2 km². The highest point is the Koglerauerspitz with a height of 685  m above sea level. A.

Blazon : In gold over a blue wavy strip in the base of the shield, one red and two green beeches, one on two, with spherical crowns and black trunks. The municipality colors are yellow-red. The beeches arranged in a triangle symbolize the roughly triangular shape of the community. The wavy bar symbolizes the southern boundary of the municipality, the Danube . The lower two houses represent the eponymous of Book overgrown Au .

The award of the municipal coat of arms and the municipal colors established by the municipal council on May 12, 1978 took place on June 24, 1978 by a resolution of the Upper Austrian provincial government.

Puchenau is mentioned for the first time in two documents from the years 807 and 827.

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria Ob der Enns .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times and has since returned to Upper Austria.

In 1893 the place was raised to an independent municipality by the state of Upper Austria, after it had belonged to Ottensheim up to then .

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, Upper Austria became the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Puchenau is a European municipality. Since 1987 there has been a partnership with the municipality of Lindberg in the Bavarian Forest - village of Buchenau .

Puchenau is located directly on the B127 Rohrbacher Straße . This means that there are good transport links to the state capital Linz . This road divides the municipality in two halves. This is also the access road for the upper Mühlviertel , which is noticeable on weekdays in the miles of traffic jams in the morning towards Linz and back again in the evening.

The traffic census in April 2007 counted around 21,500 vehicles per day at the western entrance to Puchenaus. Around 1,300 of these are trucks and other heavy goods vehicles. A traffic count in the same period at the beginning of Linz-Urfahr (practically the same traffic flow as Puchenau) around 25,500 vehicles / day, of which around 1,500 are trucks.

In addition, many post buses run every day and ÖBB trains run every 30 minutes on the Mühlkreisbahn to Linz. The first train leaves at 4.30 a.m., the last just after 10 p.m. Not all trains stop at the “Puchenau” and “Achleitnersiedlung” stops, but every train stops in “Puchenau-West”.

In 1998, an existing bus lane in Puchenau and Linz was also released for cars with three or more passengers. This would save around 270,000 euros in economic terms from 60,000 man-hours of driving time and a reduction in CO ₂ emissions .
