Engerwitzdorf is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Urfahr-Umgebung district in the lower Mühlviertel with 8,840 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Urfahr .
The originally purely rural community around Gallneukirchen has no actual core town, it is made up of 30 scattered settlements . Only a small part of the residents live in the eponymous town. Due to its proximity to Linz and its attractive location, Engerwitzdorf is one of the fastest growing communities in Austria. In Schweinbach and Mittertreffling, two cores with more dense buildings and corresponding infrastructure (schools, shopping centers, etc.) have formed, otherwise single-family houses and traditional rural villages predominate. Large parts of the municipal area are still determined by agriculture and forestry.

history
Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place has belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century and to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns since 1490 .
In 1125 the place was first mentioned as Engilboldistorf , the place name being derived from the personal name Engilpolt.
During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times and has since returned to Upper Austria.
After Austria was annexed to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, Upper Austria became the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Culture and sights
- Parish church of Treffling
- The Aegidikirchlein am Hohenstein was built in the 13th century on a high rock pulpit and was originally part of a castle that was destroyed in the 14th century.
- In the village of Gratz there are the heavily sanded remains of a ring wall system from which the name of the place is derived (Slavic “grad” or “hradec” = castle).
Economy and Infrastructure
traffic
The municipality is divided by the A7 ( Mühlkreis Autobahn ). There are three entrances / exits in the municipality (Treffling, Gallneukirchen, Engerwitzdorf). The A7 is to be extended by the S10, the Mühlviertler Schnellstraße , to the Czech border in order to relieve the neighboring communities on the B125. The B125 ( Prager Straße ) also runs through the municipality.
Due to its proximity to Linz and the well-developed connection for private transport, the municipality of Engerwitzdorf can record an above-average influx.
The Regio-Tram planned for 2022, which is to connect Pregarten with Linz and thereby form the northern rail connection to the Linz tram network, also runs through the municipality of Engerwitzdorf. After Schweinbach (town center of Engerwitzdorf) was almost relieved, parts such as Engerwitzdorf itself as well as Treffling are massively burdened by the route. Partly (Engerwitzdorf), the route is to be guided through the flood area on a newly constructed dam.
In the past, the Linz-Budweis horse-drawn railway also ran through the municipality of Engerwitzdorf. You can follow the old route along a hiking trail. The route led from Linz via Engerwitzdorf to Freistadt and then across the border to Budweis.

coat of arms
Blazon : Divided by a silver oblique left bar, covered with a green bar; above in green a golden deer antler, below in red a golden, heraldic rose with silver sepals. The community colors are red-white-green.
The deer antlers refer to the long tradition of hunting in the community. Since 1900 there have been two independent hunting grounds with a total of over 4,000 hectares. - The heraldic rose is borrowed from the Engelpoldsdorf family coat of arms; the seat of this free sex was in the area of the local parish, but cannot be reliably located. - The Mühlkreisautobahn A 7 from the Linz junction (A 1) to Unterweitersdorf - in the coat of arms as a silver sloping bar with a green center bar - crosses the municipality over a length of 9.5 km and has two full connections (in Mittertreffling and Engerwitzdorf) and one half connection ( in Schweinbach).
