Peter Wiesinger

Peter Wiesinger (born May 15, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Germanist .

In 1964 he became sub auspiciis praesidentis at the University of Vienna as Dr. phil. PhD . From 1965 to 1969 he was a research assistant at the Research Institute for the German Language in Marburg, in 1969 he qualified as a professor in Marburg for German philology and was given a professorship there in 1971 . From 1972 to 2006 he was a full professor for the German language and older German literature at the University of Vienna.

Peter Wiesinger was President of the International Association for Germanic Linguistics and Literature Studies (IVG) from 1995 to 2000 and has been its Honorary President since 2001.

Wiesinger is a real member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and an external member of the Polish Academy of Learning in Krakow (Poland).
