International Association for German Language and Literature Studies

The International Association for German Studies (IVG) is an association of scientists who work in the field of German studies . IVG was founded in Florence in 1951 at the fifth congress of the "Fédération Internationale des Langues et Littératures Modernes" (FILLM) as a subsidiary of FILLM. Every five years the IVG organizes a congress in different cities; the location of the congress is based on the place of activity of the respective president.

The number of IVG members rose from 192 in 1955 to 2174 in 1990. In 1995 the association had 1,569 members and in 2000 it had 1,174 members.
