history

The place was first mentioned as Chazilinistorf in 1125. Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . At the beginning of the 16th century the Reformation spread in the area, violent religious battles and the implementation of the Counter Reformation were the result.

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria.

With the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . At the end of 1944, after many years of work by concentration camp prisoners from the Gusen concentration camp, the Gusen III concentration camp was established in the Lungitz district and liberated by American troops in May 1945. A concentration camp memorial stone was erected near the warehouse. After 1945 , Upper Austria was restored.

During work on the track substructure at Lungitz station in autumn 2018, a layer of ash with bones came to light. At an event on December 11, 2019, Interior Minister Wolfgang Peschorn informed that human bones and artefacts typical for a concentration camp and that time had actually been found and that a memorial was to be built.

Church chronicle

The parish church of St. Vitus. Katsdorf:

1116 : Hermann von Chazilinitorf the Elder Ä. built a church - probably made of wood, as was customary in the Mühlviertel at that time - and had it consecrated on April 4th by Passau Bishop Ulrich I of Passau .

In 1125 Hermann von Chazilinitorf d. J. Katsdorf's own church to St. Florian Monastery.

1350 : In a document from St. Florian Monastery from September 29th, Katsdorf is expressly named " Parochia " (parish), a sign that this was still an independent parish at that time.

1546 : The provost of the monastery could no longer occupy the parish due to a lack of priests. Katsdorf became a branch of the " mother parish " Ried in the Riedmark . A service was held once a month, otherwise people had to go to Ried or Gallneukirchen .

1645 : The current parish church of St. Vitus was built, as reported on the marble plaque above the sacristy. From 1715 to 1725, only five services were celebrated by the Rieder clergy in Katsdorf each year . From 1726 to 1781 a priest from Ried held a mass in Katsdorf every month. It is understandable that Katsdorf endeavored to become its own parish again.

1785 : On August 30, the imperial governor Eybl issued an order to St. Florian Monastery to send a permanent pastor to Katsdorf. The branch church thus became a parish church again.

1838 : On April 8th, lightning struck the church and set fire to the spire and the roof of the nave. Most of the church was destroyed; only the presbytery and sacristy remained. The rebuilding of the church was eagerly worked on, so that it could already be consecrated on October 29, 1838 by Bishop Gregor Thomas Ziegler .

1891 : The organ was built by the organ builder Josef Matthäus Mauracher from St. Florian. It was completely renovated in 1998 by the Walcker-Mayer organ builder from Guntramsdorf . The prospect pipes, which had fallen victim to the First World War , were rebuilt in the builder style; the organ case has also been restored.

1892–1893 : The baroque church furnishings were removed and replaced by a new one in the Renaissance style.

In 1967 the church was renovated according to the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council. The high altar, the side altars, the pulpit and the communion grille were removed, and the sanctuary with the popular altar and ambo was redesigned.

In 1983 the interior of the church was renovated. A baroque altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of the patron saint Vitus is in the center of the sanctuary. A picture of St. Augustine is placed above the sacristy door. Baroque pictures with the Holy Family and St. Sebastian are above the tabernacle and baptismal font.

In 1985 , to mark the 200th anniversary of the parish, two baroque statues, Mary with the Child and St. Florian , were placed in the nave.

2002 : On June 3rd the exterior renovation of the parish church began and on August 17th the tower cross was put on and a parish festival was celebrated.
