Pabneukirchen is a market town in Upper Austria in the Perg district in the Mühlviertel with 1694 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

The municipality has been part of the judicial district of Perg since 2003 (previously to the former judicial district of Grein ) with the responsible district court in the district capital of Perg .

geography

Pabneukirchen is 571 m above sea level in the Mühlviertel. The extension is 7.2 km from north to south and 11.1 km from west to east. The total area is 41.1 km². 37.2% of the area is forested, 58.4% of the area is used for agriculture.

history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century. Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

Population development

In 1991 the community was home to 1765 inhabitants according to the census; In 2001 there were 1726 inhabitants.

Natural monuments

The twelve meter high hermit wall is registered as a natural monument in the nature conservation book of the Upper Austrian provincial government . It is a rock formation made of Weinsberg granite and a depression interpreted as a sacrificial bowl, which was created by chemical and biological weathering.
