Karl Hohensinner

Karl Hohensinner (* 1967 ) is an Austrian Germanist , historian , cultural mediator and writer living in Grein . He is also involved in local politics and monument protection .

Education

Hohensinner studied German literature and history at the University of Vienna from 1985 to 1993. He then completed a doctorate same place and in 1997 with a dissertation on the settlement name in the northeastern Upper Austria (judicial districts Freistadt and Unterweissbach) for Doctor philosophiae doctorate. Before that, he had already dedicated his thesis to the place and court names of the Grein judicial district .

Scientific activity

Hohensinner's main areas of work include name studies (especially place and family names) and the history of Upper Austria. In addition, he researches and publishes in the fields of the history of time and mentality , also primarily with reference to this state. For example, he is leading a research project on National Socialism in Strudengau , in the course of which video documentations were created and exhibitions were organized. He held several German courses at the University of Vienna. From 2013 to 2017 he headed the FWF research project Etymologies of surnames on -inger in Upper Austria.

Hohensinner is also active in local politics and has been a member of Grein's municipal council since 2009. 2009-2015 he held the function of the city's cultural advisor. He has also been involved in the protection of historical monuments in Upper Austria for many years. He successfully campaigned for the preservation of the medieval toll tower in Sarmingstein .
