history

Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place has belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century and to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns since 1490 .

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1264, both as Zwetlich and Zvetlik , the name being derived from the Slavic word for clearing, as with Zwettl in Lower Austria .

During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times.

After Austria was annexed to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, Upper Austria became the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.

2001 1,777 +146 + 9.0%
1991 1,631 +213  + 15.0%
1981 1,418

The strong population growth in the years 1981 to 2001 occurred because both the birth balance and the migration balance were positive. From 2001 to 2011 there was a strong emigration that canceled out the positive birth balance.
