The parish church Zwettl an der Rodl stands northwest of the market square in the market town of Zwettl an der Rodl in the Urfahr-Umgebung district in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated on the feast of the Assumption of Mary - incorporated into Wilhering Abbey - belongs to the deanery of St. Johann am Wimberg in the diocese of Linz . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In a document, a branch church of the Gramastetten parish church for Zwettl an der Rodl was donated by Ulrich von Lobenstein in 1264 and elevated to a parish church in 1375 through the separation of an independent parish. In 1624 the church was incorporated into Wilhering Abbey.

The nave, choir and tower were built in the first half of the 15th century. In 1706 the tower was raised. In 1870/1873 the church was renovated and renewed with the architect and builder Otto Schirmer . The neo-Gothic sacristy was added by the architect Raimund Jeblinger . In 1970 the interior was redesigned in accordance with the Second Vatican Council.

The retracted one-bay late Gothic choir, which was built at the beginning, has a ribbed vault with a five-eighth end . The two-aisled, four-bay late Gothic nave hall has a rib vault over octagonal pillars. The west gallery is neo-Gothic. The mighty, late-Gothic tower stands on the north side of the single-bay choir and was raised in 1706, and in 1898 the onion helmet was replaced by a pointed tower. The sacristy connects across the corner to the north and west of the tower. Rudolf Kolbitsch created the glass windows .

Furnishing

In 1997/98 the people's altar designed by Marga Persson was set up. In 1998 Zwettl received a new organ from Diethard Pemmer. In 1999/2000 the new floor carpets and chandeliers were designed by Marga Persson.
