The Heide barracks is a barracks in Bad Düben , Alaunwerk district, used by the NVA and the Bundeswehr from 1956 to 1997 .

National People's Army of the GDR (1956–1990)

The barracks are located in the Alaunwerk district of Bad Düben, which is surrounded by forest. It was put into operation in 1956 and was the location of the 3rd Chemical Defense Battalion and the 3rd Detonometry and Reconnaissance Battalion of the National People's Army (NVA) in the GDR until October 2, 1990 .

From October 3, 1990, the barracks was used by the Bundeswehr NBC Defense Battalion 705 and abandoned in 1997.

Shooting of the film "NVA" (2004)

"NVA" is a film comedy by the director Leander Haußmann from 2005 and caricatures life in the National People's Army (abbreviated: NVA ) in the final phase of the GDR . The main role is played by Kim Frank , former singer of the band Echt , which was successful in the 1990s . The shooting took place from July 14, 2004 to September 3, 2004 in the Heide-Kaserne , which in the film is called Fidel-Castro-Kaserne . As extras for the roles as soldiers in the army, 400 young men between the ages of 16 and 23 practiced marching, carrying out military commands and living in the barracks and received 50 euros per day of shooting. The preview took place on September 24, 2005 in the Heide-Kaserne, the location of the film, as part of an event organized by Delphi Filmverleih and Boje Buck Filmproduktion, which was intended as a thank you to everyone involved, extras, companies and institutions in the region was. The film was released in cinemas on September 29, 2005, and around 800,000 visitors watched the film. In 2006 the film received the DVD Champion media award in the German Film category and the 2006 German Camera Prize was awarded to Hansjörg Weißbrich in the Film Editing category .

Shooting of the film "The Tower" (2011)

"The Tower" is a two-part German television film based on the novel of the same name by Uwe Tellkamp , which focuses on the story of the Hoffmann family in the milieu of Dresden's educated middle class from 1982 to 1989. Well-known actors like Jan Josef Liefers in the lead role, as well as Peter Sodann , Udo Schenk , Nadja Uhl and Stephanie Stumph are involved in the film, but were not present during the shooting in Bad Düben. The shooting took place from September to December 2011 at several locations in Germany. For the 14-day filming in Bad Düben, extras were again wanted. The shooting took place in the Heide barracks and on the nearby bank of the Mulde . It was first broadcast on television on October 3rd and 4th, 2012 on Das Erste . The scenes filmed in the Heide barracks in Bad Düben can mainly be seen at the beginning of the 2nd part. The film received numerous awards, in 2012 the Bambi as “Audience Award”, in 2013 the Golden Camera for Claudia Michelsen as “Best German Actress”, the Grimme Award in the “Fiction” category, and the Jupiter Film Award as “best TV-Film ”and an award from the German Academy for Television eV in the“ Best Editing ”category for Jens Klüber .

Theater performance "The Great Drought" (2015)

In the summer of 2015, the open-air western “The Great Drought” was performed as a play by LANDschektivenTHEATER, a regional theater project in collaboration with professional theater and film makers and residents from the region, on the site of the former Heide barracks. Over 100 actors performed the play several times.

Planning a fun sports park

The former NVA halls are currently used as storage facilities for building materials and construction elements made of glass and metal, and 4.9 megawatts of electricity are generated on the roofs using photovoltaic systems. In the meantime, an Alaunwerk GbR was founded, which plans to operate a fun sports park.

In April 2016, a concept for the planned fun sport training and performance center was presented. The park therefore has 33,000 m² of outdoor area, 16,000 m² of training halls and 17,000 m² of accommodation. A federal performance center for fun sports such as BMX , skateboard , inline skates , e-crossers, mountain bikes and freestyle is to be built; plans include a skate park, a diving platform, a washboard slope, a building wall or a hill with stairs and bridges. Facilities for Free MX, Skateboard, BMX, Slacklining and Parkour are provided in the indoor halls . A medical department / doctor's office, workshops, performance diagnostics, development laboratories for new types of sport and equipment, TV and video studios are also planned. The investment costs are estimated at 20 million euros. Around 16,000 visitors per year and an annual turnover of 10 million euros are expected. All year round, 60 jobs could be created, in the main season even around 100 jobs. The planning and search for investors is currently ongoing, but no further results are expected before 2017/2018.
