Marga Persson (born February 27, 1943 in Lund , Sweden ) is a Swedish-Austrian artist and art college teacher. She lives and works in Kefermarkt and Vienna .

Life

Marga Persson grew up in Barsebäckshamn in Skåne . After graduating from high school in 1963, she began studying art history at the University of Lund before moving to Vienna in 1965.

From 1965 to 1970 she studied with Josef Schulz and Grete Rader-Soulek at the Academy of Applied Arts Vienna , where the first image fabrics (skin delicacies) were created - a medium that, alongside drawing and painting, is the focus of her artistic work.

Marga Persson taught from 1974 to 1977 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and from 1977 to 1980 a teaching position at the University of Art and Industrial Design in Linz. In 1992 she was appointed full professor at the then university (today: University of Artistic and Industrial Design Linz ), where she headed the textile master class and the textile / art & design department until her retirement in 2011.

Painting, drawing and weaving are three media of equal value for Marga Persson, whereby she is particularly committed to textile art. The simple principle of two crossed threads is elementary for her and also appears in works on paper and canvas as a "visual" fabric. The concentration on the slow process and the course of drawing / painting / weaving leads to a special perception for the artist of time and its measure, of order and experiment. The image fabrics are usually created in a very free way of working, without a draft or preliminary drawing, directly on the high loom.

Large-format works have been created for public and sacred spaces in Austria and Sweden since 1975: Austria Center Vienna (1985); Karolinska Institutet Stockholm (1986); Financial Directorate Salzburg (1986); Johannes Kepler University Linz (1985/1990); AKH Vienna (1991); New / Old Town Hall Linz (1985/1997); Parish Church of Stainach, Styria (1998); Kefermarkt municipal office (2000).

From several spatial interventions, the work is how small the step is ... to mention the permanent exhibition created in 2000 for the north chapel of Wilhering Abbey , as well as re-form, which took place in 2009 as part of Linz09 (Capital of Culture) in the Evangelical Reconciliation Church Linz-Dornach was seen.

Image tissue and works on paper are in public and private collections: u. a. Wilhering Abbey , Upper Austria; Statens Konstråd; National Museum Stockholm; Helsingborgs Museum; MAK Vienna ; Artothek des Bundes, Vienna; Collection of the state of Upper Austria; Collection of the City of Linz, LENTOS ; Museum Nordico, Linz ; Oberbank art collection, Linz; Museum Angerlehner, Wels .

Marga Persson took part in several artist symposia: Meditation '85 in Poppendorf Castle (steirischer herbst '85 ), paintings in the OK (Open House of Culture Upper Austria) in Linz 1992 and textile art? in Sigharting , Upper Austria 1994.

She has been a member of the artists' association MAERZ in Linz since 1978 and an honorary member of the Künstlerhaus Wien since 2014 .
