Raimund Jeblinger (born August 31, 1853 in Peterskirchen , Upper Austria ; † March 4, 1937 in St. Peter am Hart in Upper Austria) is considered the most important Upper Austrian architect of historicism .

Life

In 1872 Jeblinger began studying engineering and building construction at the technical universities in Karlsruhe, Munich and, until graduation in 1877, in Graz. In addition, he completed an apprenticeship as a master mason and carpenter and attended the painting academy in Graz. After a brief activity in Burgkirchen / Upper Austria, he worked as a site manager in the cathedral construction works in Linz, which at that time was under the direction of Otto Schirmer. In 1881 he founded his own architectural office in Linz. In addition, he also worked as a curator for the " Central Commission for Art and Historical Monuments ". Later he was also a member of the board of directors of the Upper Austrian State Museum and had a seat and vote on the art association's committee . His activity was not limited to the Upper Austrian area. In 1895 he was brought to Carniola, which was devastated by a severe earthquake , where he was involved in the reconstruction of the destroyed churches.

In February 1901 Jeblinger applied to head the Archbishop's Building Office in Freiburg im Breisgau . The position became vacant after Max Meckel's dismissal . Jeblinger received the position and in July 1901 the then Freiburg Archbishop Thomas Nörber appointed him head of the building department. In the following years Jeblinger developed an extensive activity in the area of ​​the Freiburg Archdiocese . Numerous new church buildings, church extensions and restorations were carried out according to his plans.

On April 1, 1924, Raimund Jeblinger was retired. He spent this from September 1924 in St. Peter am Hart in Upper Austria, where he died on March 4, 1937.
