Villingen Minster
The Villinger Münster ( Minster of Our Lady ) is a minster in the center of the Villingen district in Villingen-Schwenningen . It is the main Catholic church in Villingen. It was originally dedicated to John the Baptist . The nail cross is located in Villingen Minster .
Building
Villingen's landmark was begun in 1130 in Romanesque style and completed in Gothic style in 1284 , but was later expanded. The reason for the change in style was the Villingen city fire of 1271, which destroyed parts of the minster. Two 50 meter high towers were added in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Renovations
In the 18th century , it was expanded to include baroque elements, including a stucco ceiling and a high altar (1738) by Johann Martin Hermann . The Gothic wheel window was replaced by a pointed arch window and the barrel ceiling was replaced in 1701 by a stucco ceiling made by Ignatius Bürkner , a plasterer from Villingen . The figures of the apostles on the side walls were created by Anton Joseph Schupp from 1715 to 1719 . In 1724 the local locksmiths Johann Stern and Caspar Speth made the choir grille. Remnants of it are still preserved in the Franciscan Museum.
Puritan endeavors in the 19th century led to the loss of numerous furnishings. In 1829, among other things, 70 statues, 10 glass windows, 60 epitaphs and the choir grille were removed . In 1851 the porch of the double portal from 1623 was removed. It is based on a watercolor by Pieter Francis Peters . The baroque high altar was removed in 1857. The Gothic pulpit was preserved, the builder of which has remained unknown until now.
From 1978 to 1982 the cathedral was completely renovated. Among other things, it received new flooring and new benches. The nave was equipped with new windows and a new priest's bench (both by Elmar Hillebrand ) as well as with an ambo and a celebration altar by Klaus Ringwald .
The building has a main portal and a south portal . Both were designed by Klaus Ringwald and made of bronze .
51 bells represent "one of the largest carillon in southern Germany".
organ
The organ was built in 1983 by the organ builder Sandtner . The instrument has a mechanical play contracture and an electrical key action .

Eight bells were cast in 1954 by the FW Schilling bell foundry , and another bell in 1985 by the Karlsruhe bell foundry. Seven of the chime bells hang in a wooden bell chair in the south tower. In the north tower, the two deepest bells hang in a steel bell cage.

In the south tower of the minster there is a carillon with a range from Es 1 and A flat 1 to A 5 . 46 bells were cast in 2006 by the Perner bell foundry . In addition, a bell from the original Münster chimes by Grüninger from 1909 was integrated into the carillon. In addition, four chimes of the Münster chimes can be played (bells 4, 6 ff.). The belfry with the 47 bells, a cylindrical steel construction, is located on a two-storey tower mezzanine.
