The Roman Catholic parish church of Amstetten-Herz Jesu is located in the municipality of Amstetten in Lower Austria . The parish church Herz Jesu belongs to the deanery Amstetten of the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building .

history

The church was built from 1899 to 1931 according to the plans of the architect Raimund Jeblinger . The choir was consecrated in 1908. In 1918 the Church was taken over by the Salesians . In 1939 the church was elevated to a secular parish church. In 1945 the church was badly damaged by bombs. In 1951/1953 the reconstruction took place with the architect Josef Friedl with simplified forms of the inner wall divisions.

architecture

The church is raised in Preinsbacher Strasse as an axial counterpart to the station building at the southern end of Bahnhofsstrasse. The monumental neo-Romanesque basilica with a transept has a south double tower facade. The gable field shows the sgraffito Holy Family by the painter Sepp Zöchling (1954).

Furnishing

A monumental crucifix by the sculptor W. Bacher (1958) hangs above the Hochaltarmensa.

The Stations of the Cross mosaics were created by the painter Lucia Jirgal (1954).
