After Waldkirch, Kollnau is the largest district of the large district town of Waldkirch and is located in the lower Elztal in the southern part of the central Black Forest .

history

The place Kollnau belonged to the Waldkirch monastery St. Margaretha about a thousand years ago .

In the 17th century there were forges and smelting furnaces in an iron and hammer mill. The Kollnau cotton spinning and weaving mill had to close in 1990.

On January 1, 1975, Buchholz, Kollnau and Waldkirch merged to form the new town of Waldkirch.

The highest point is the Vogelistein with 607 m.

Churches

Kollnau, St. Josef
  • The Catholic St. Joseph Church was consecrated on September 4, 1910. (The vast majority of the population is Roman Catholic.)
  • The Protestant Paul Gerhardt Church was built in 1965. In 2013 the church received an additional new organ from the organ building company Jäger und Brommer from Waldkirch . Manuals: II / P register: 23.
  • The brass band is at the entrance of the Kohlenbach valley. Its origin is unknown. The chapel was first mentioned in 1573. In 1887/88 it was expanded to its present size by adding the nave. In 1959 the chapel received new windows, which were designed by the glass painter Wilhelm Geyer and executed by Hubert Deininger (both from Ulm). The chapel was renovated in 2010/11. The organ by the Upper Swabian organ builder Franz Anton Kiene was also completely restored .

Transport and infrastructure

In Kollnau there is the primary school on Kohlenbach, a secondary school and the Free School Elztal, which is based on the educational work of the Waldorf education developed by Rudolf Steiner .

Since April 30, 2016, Kollnau has a new outdoor pool, 's Bad.

Kollnau is a stop on the Elztalbahn Freiburg - Denzlingen - Elzach , which is served every hour by the Breisgau S-Bahn.
