Franz Anton Kiene (born February 5, 1777 in Amtzell , † October 31, 1847 in Langenargen ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Franz Anton Kiene was the son of the organ maker Gebhard Kiene (1748–1814). He learned the organ building trade from 1802–1804 from his father's cousins, the brothers Raymund Hanser and Moritz Hanser in Singenberg near Amtzell in the Western Allgäu.

When he married in 1808, he first moved to Kißlegg , where he ran an organ builder workshop, before settling in Langenargen on Lake Constance in 1828 .

successor

His son Johann Nepomuk Kiene (1812–1902) later took over his workshop. The family's subsequent organ builders are Johann Franz Anton Kiene II (1845–1908), Rudolf Kiene (1888–1971) and, since 1986, his grandson Wolfram Stützle. The workshop has been in Waldkirch since 1897 .

Franz Anton Kiene is considered to be the most important organ builder in Upper Swabia in the first half of the 19th century. His organs are based on the Upper Swabian baroque tradition (such as that of Joseph Gabler ), which he and his son continued in a peculiar style. His slider chest organs were known for their thought-sound concept, typically contained several 16'-register . All of his surviving works were heavily rebuilt at a later date; none of his larger works have the original disposition.

For example, Kiene planned the following arrangement for the organ of the collegiate church in Wolfegg , but this was not carried out:

I main work
