Jesuit Church (Lucerne)
The Jesuit Church of St. Francis Xavier is one of Francisco de Xavier named Jesuit church on the left bank of the Reuss in the old town of Lucerne .
history
The Lucerne Jesuit Church was the first large Baroque church in Switzerland to be built between 1666 and 1677, possibly according to plans by a Vorarlberger such as Michael Beer or Michael Thumb , or according to plans by the Jesuit father Heinrich Mayer and Father Christoph Vogler . In any case, Mayer designed the stucco work in the side chapels, which are the oldest examples of the style of the Wessobrunn school in Switzerland . The painter Domenico Torriani from Mendrisio created the painting of the main altar (1667/1673). The wall paintings come from the brothers Giuseppe Antonio and Giovanni Antonio Torricelli from Lugano . The church was structurally connected to the college in 1755 . The two towers were added in 1893 by Heinrich Viktor von Segesser . The church was renovated in the 1950s and more extensively in the 1970s. The most recent renovation was completed in January 2017. It is particularly important because of the extensive equipment.
organ
The organ was built in 1982 by the Metzler organ building company. In it, the original Goll organ from 1897 was partially reused (the stops marked with an h come from the Goll organ).
