Christoph Schmider

Christoph Schmider (* 1960 in Hornberg ) is a German archivist and Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .

Life

Schmider studied musicology, history and English in Freiburg im Breisgau . His doctorate took place in 1991 with a thesis on the history of church music in the 19th century in the Archdiocese of Freiburg, in addition he completed his training for the higher archival service. Schmider has been working in the Archbishop's Archive of Freiburg since 1987 , which he has headed since 1998, as well as the diocesan office archives, libraries, registry in the Archbishop's Ordinariate . He published numerous works on regional church and music history. Schmider teaches as a lecturer at the Archive School in Marburg as well as in church adult education. In 2009 he took over the editing of the journal of the church history association “ Freiburg Diocesan Archive ” from Hugo Ott , from 2015 to 2018 he was chairman of the Federal Conference of Church Archives in Germany. With effect from January 1, 2017, he was appointed Chancellor of the Curia.
