Hugo Ott

Hugo Ott (born August 20, 1931 in Königshofen , Main-Tauber-Kreis ) is a German economic historian and emeritus professor for economic and social history , biographer of the philosopher Martin Heidegger .

Life

Hugo Ott in 1959 with the work on the history of the monastery of St. Blaise in the high and late Middle Ages in Freiburg to Dr. phil. doctorate , in 1967 he completed his habilitation with a paper on the late medieval agricultural constitution in the Upper Rhine region.

From 1972 to 1997 Ott held the chair for economic and social history at the historical seminar of the University of Freiburg im Breisgau .

He wrote a biography of Hans Filbinger , the controversial former Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg (together with Wolfgang Jäger and Heinz Hürten ) in 1980, in which he was the first specialist scientist to examine Filbinger's activity as a naval judge (see also: Filbinger Affair ).

He was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Research Center Resistance Against National Socialism in Southwest Germany at the University of Karlsruhe , headed by Rudolf Lill . Ott is also head of the historians' commission for the beatification of Max Josef Metzger .

He had conversations with Pastor Emil Kiesel in which Kiesel addressed the lack of solidarity in the concentration camp, both among the priests and between priests and their fellow prisoners.

Hugo Ott has been a member of Unitas Reichenau in the Association of Scientific Catholic Student Associations Unitas since 1952 and an honorary member of the KDStV Hercynia Freiburg in CV since 1988 .
