St. Michael is a Catholic church in the Freiburg district of Haslach . It was built from 1907 to 1909 in neo-Romanesque forms.

history

Haslach is mentioned for the first time in 786 in a document from the St. Gallen Monastery . A document from 1275 contains a reference to its own parish church. This became Protestant in the course of the Reformation and is now called Melanchthon Church .

After the Reformation, the St. Michael's Chapel was consecrated in 1866. As the congregation grew rapidly, the first construction phase of the new St. Michaelskirche was consecrated on October 17, 1909, which Raimund Jeblinger had started on July 28, 1907 . A second construction phase and the tower construction between 1954 and 1956 finished the church in its present form. The old church, the St. Michaelskapelle, has been preserved and has now been used again.

The corpus of the cross and the figures of Maria and Johannes above the entrance doors are copies of the figures on the triumphal cross on the rood screen of the monastery church in Wechselburg . The oak figures were created by Joseph Dettlinger in 1909 and painted in gold and silver. Since Franz Schilling took over the painting of the church, the three artists who had also worked together on the construction of the Archbishop's Ordinariate were at work with him, Dettlinger and Jeblinger .

In 1936 St. Michael received an organ from M. Welte & Sons with 25 registers on 2 manuals and a pedal. The redesign by the Breisach artist Helmut Lutz , which lasted from 1988 to 1996, attracted a lot of attention through her pictures on the subject of creation .

In 2007 the Michaelskapelle from 1866 was converted into the meeting point St. Michael in cooperation with the local Caritas . It now houses a café and the parish office.
