Göschweiler is a district of the city of Löffingen , has 479 inhabitants and is between 850 and 905 m above sea level.
history
Göschweiler lies on a plateau to the left of the Wutach Gorge and was first mentioned in a document around 850. The origins of today's secular St. Rochus Church as the parish church of Göschweiler go back to this time. Göschweiler belonged to the Fürstenberg house until the principality of Fürstenberg was dissolved in 1806, and then became an independent municipality in the Grand Duchy of Baden . With the community reform , the place was incorporated into Löffingen on June 1, 1972. The place has its own kindergarten, elementary school and community hall.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- Romanesque Church of St. Rochus : Göschweiler has been a parish since 834. Rochus of Montpellier , to whom the church is dedicated, can also be seen on the former municipal coat of arms. The Rochusturm, built around the year 1000 as a watchtower and defense tower, was probably rebuilt by Haus Blumegg around 1300. The nave was probably built in the 12th century. The Rochuskirche has been the studio of the artist Johannes Dörflinger since 1994.
- Herz Jesu Kirche At the end of the 18th century, the Rochuskirche was too small and in need of major renovation. It was decided to build a new church, the planning of which dragged on for years. The church was built in the neo-Romanesque style between 1911 and 1914 , but was not consecrated until July 13, 1922 in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The church, in which striking shell limestone elements are installed, was last renovated in 1986 and the chancel was redesigned in 2002 by the artist Leonhard Eder from Rheinfelden, while the side altars by Friedrich Hügel from Karlsruhe have been preserved unchanged. From 1978 the parish of Göschweiler was also looked after by the parish of Löffingen and has been part of the Löffingen pastoral care unit since June 1, 2005 .
- The historic vaulted and ice cellar of the Kreuz Gasthaus and brewery was built around 1600 and acquired by the city in 1971. It has housed a cheese factory since 2004.
- The Wutach Gorge offers sights such as the Stallegg Bridge and the remains of the two castle ruins Burg Neu-Blumberg ( Räuberschlössle ) and Burg Stallegg . A well-known destination is the shadow mill .
Technical monuments
- The Stallegg run-of-river power plant is located in the Göschweiler district and is one of the first three-phase power plants in Germany. In the power plant, which is not open to the public, two Francis turbines with asynchronous generators work today , while the first generator from 1895 is still in the machine house. A few hundred meters upriver is the reservoir belonging to the power plant with one of the first dams to be built in rammed concrete . The Stallegg power plant supplied Göschweiler and Löffingen with electrical energy from 1919 after it was connected to the network of the Laufenburg power plant and abandoned island operation .
Natural monuments
- The rural place in the Black Forest is a suitable starting point for hikes in the Wutach and Rötenbach gorges as well as the Lotenbach gorge .
- There are several impressive sinkholes above Göschweiler. In addition to the powerful, meantime wooded old Rosshag- sinkhole the new Rosshagdoline is that on 10 January 1954, a diameter of 18 m to a depth of about 38 meters broke.
- In the Wutach Gorge, between the Stallegger Bridge and the Stallegg river power station, there is the approximately 300-year-old Stallegger Fir , 52 meters high.
