Blackboard on the Stallegger fir

The fir tree is 52 m high and 4.52 m in circumference. Their age was estimated to be 250 years around 1980. Therefore, it should be 290 years old in 2020. The fir was examined in 2010 and it was found that on the one hand the trunk is hollow and on the other hand that it continues to grow.

On August 13, 2014 the crown was torn off the fir tree in a length of approx. 20 m by a gust of wind. According to the Wutachrangers Martin Schwenninger, the proportion of the green crown should still be large enough so that it can regenerate. The place where the crown broke was, according to him, rotten. He sees another sign of rot in a woodpecker hole in the summit part. In the meantime (2020) the fir tree has died.
