Charly Niessen
Charly Niessen (born August 22, 1923 in Vienna ; † February 21, 1990 in Prien am Chiemsee ; actually Carl Niessen ) was an Austrian composer and songwriter .
Life
He studied music and theater studies in Vienna, Weimar and Jena. After the end of the war Niessen began as a lyricist and composer for Viennese cabarets. From 1952 he worked in Berlin for the cabaret Die Stachelschweine .
Here he was discovered by Heino Gaze for the German hit . His first commercially released songs included Die Damenwelt von Chile , which appeared as the B-side on one of Caterina Valente's first singles ( Malaguena ) in 1954. Niessen was one of the most successful lyricists and composers in the heyday of pop music at the end of the 50s and beginning of the 60s. In total he wrote over 1000 titles. At the Eurovision Song Contest in 1963 , Heidi Brühl competed with his song Marcel and took 9th place.
He also wrote the German version of the lyrics for the musical Promises, Promises . In 1965 he wrote the musical Wonderful Chicago himself . He wrote the film music for several hit films and films of other kinds, and some of his hit titles are performed in other films. Niessen was temporarily married to the actress Claudia Wedekind . His grave is located in the Prien am Chiemsee cemetery .
