Bank robbery in the Rue Latour is a German crook comedy from 1961 by and with Curd Jürgens in the lead role.

action

The story from Paris is told in a flashback of Cliff MacHardy sitting in the sauna.

This is an old-school gentleman, but that doesn't get along well these days. And so Cliff decides to turn to upscale rip-off. But since he is not familiar with this profession, he makes contact with two experienced crooks, Alex and Manchette, who can help him. But first of all, you need a good plan. The three would-be crooks first try a simple disguise and, disguised as priest, want to facilitate a cashier in the bank. But the break becomes a laughing stock, the fear of one's own courage is greater than the criminal nature. When a girl claims that “Pope” Cliff had a revolver in hand, the “gang boss” wriggles out with a trick and the three crook actors blow to retreat. On leaving the bank, they come across a film crew who are making documentary recordings. A crew member asks if the three clergymen can be accepted for the film.

This gave Cliff the brilliant idea: You would have to combine a bank robbery with filming! You'd have to rob this bank so that you wouldn't even notice anything, not even the bank employees themselves. So the three of them set up a fake film crew who filmed a bank robbery in a real bank, only real money during this “filming” is stolen. A suitable branch will soon be found, namely the one on Rue Latour. But the first difficulties and obstacles quickly arise. It is true that the crooks have found a capable director in Bergström and at least an eccentric and imaginative scriptwriter with the chaotic and confused Bex. But then the boss unexpectedly falls in love with a young woman whom he calls his mascot. With the dodgy Camorra, he also gets an adversary on his neck who has got wind of the bank robbery plan and threatens to whistle it. The bank robbery almost threatens to fail because of its own inability. But Cliff has made a lifelike and award-winning film that makes its producers famous and rich overnight.

Reviews

“With the art of sitting down on punch lines and sitting on them, perfected by German film, Curd Jürgens staged his third play of light (after Without you, it'll be night and bonuses on death ). He put his hand in directing a detective comedy that allowed him to peep his peers in the industry with the masses. (...) Director Jürgens interspersed the occasionally lively swinging act with cumbersome situational comedy, which the actor Jürgens performs - for example as a priest or as a cloakroom lady. Klaus Kinski, on the other hand, was not burdened with any transformational tasks: as a confused screenwriter he plays himself. "

- Der Spiegel , No. 35 from August 23, 1961

"" Cliff and director Curd Jürgens "is in the opening credits, and one wonders what" Cliff "is. A new film job? But no, Cliff is of course the main role in the film, the director of which could not make up his mind whether he should do a crime thriller or some clothes. It goes without saying that Herr Juergens is in the picture almost all the time. After all, you also have the chance to see a handful of excellent actors, such as Erika von Thellmann, Ursula Herking and Peer Schmidt. It will be one of Curd Juergens' merits that he let Carl Lange play something other than an officer. His study by a director is worth seeing. "

- Hamburger Abendblatt dated August 17, 1961

The following can be read in Films 1959/61: "A Curd-Jürgens masquerade that wrongly considers itself funny."

In the lexicon of international films it says: "Little comedy riddled with swipes at politics and the film industry, which is told in a long flashback and provides useful crime entertainment."
