Franz Geiger
Franz Geiger (born April 3, 1921 in Munich ; † June 1, 2011 in Mallorca ) was a German screenwriter , director and actor .
Life and personality
Geiger was born the son of a Munich painter. As an opponent of National Socialism , he was interrogated several times by the Gestapo , including in connection with the arrest of the White Rose resistance group . In 1943 Geiger was actively involved in the resistance against National Socialism . As an interpreter in POW camps, he mediated between a military doctor and the French resistance organization Résistance . The doctor was supposed to put French people requested by the Resistance on sick leave and discharge them. Geiger was arrested and was imprisoned in Torgau Fortress until the end of the war .
Geiger studied Romance studies , art history and theater studies at the University of Munich . In the second half of the 1940s, Geiger was a dramaturge and assistant director at the Bavarian State Theater and the Munich Young Theater. Geiger also worked as an assistant director and co-director at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, among others . He also translated texts in Spanish , French and English , including all of Jean Anouilh's pieces . He was also a successful playwright of original, often black, comedies.
From the 1950s onwards, Geiger wrote a number of feature films and television series. He was also involved in the post-production of numerous scripts. He played a detective director in the multi-part series Monaco Franze , he also wrote the script and directed two episodes. Geiger also stood in front of the camera for a documentary about himself entitled Lifelines - With Charm and a Pointy Pen .
In 1991 Geiger received the medal Munich lights up - The Friends of Munich . In 1996 he was awarded the Ernst Hoferichter Prize . Geiger was an honorary member of the Association of German Scriptwriters .
