The Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia is a football stadium in the Lombard city of Como , Italy . It is the home of the football club Como Calcio and was named after the Italian rower Giuseppe Sinigaglia (1884-1916), who was wounded and died in the First World War .
history
Opened in 1927, the stadium is owned by the city and is located directly on Lake Como . The sports facility used to be equipped with a cycling track. From 1960 to 1974, the investment destination was the cycling - the classic Tour of Lombardy . Today the stadium offers 13,602 seats, around 20% of which are covered. The sports facility consists of the roofed main grandstand, an uncovered opposite grandstand, the east curve for the guest fans and the spectator tier consisting of two steel grandstands in the west, both of which are open to the sky.
In 1990 the old main grandstand was demolished and replaced by a new one. Instead of the Curva Azzurra , two tubular steel grandstands named Curva Como were built in the summer of 2002 , which increased the spectator capacity by 3,500 to 5,000 spectators. In the 2002/03 season Como played in Serie A . With additional stands, the stadium could hold up to 18,000 spectators this season. The last thing to do in 2003/04 was to replace the old guest rank in the east with a new concrete building.
The stadium was selected as the venue for the semi-finals, the third place match and the final of the 2012/13 NextGen Series (A Juniors).
In addition to football, concerts are also given in the stadium; so was z. On July 13, 2004, for example, the British rock band Deep Purple performed in Como.
