history

The Stadio Gaetano Bonolis in Teramo, a town with around 55,000 inhabitants in the Abruzzo region in central Italy, was built between 2006 and 2008 and opened on March 27 of the latter year. For the first event in the new stadium, the future user association, the Teramo Calcio football club, as well as the football clubs AS Pescina Valle del Giovenco and Celano FC Marsica met for a three-way tournament. The first official game in the new stadium took place as part of the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione against FC Esperia Viareggio , Teramo won the match 1-0. Since the spring of 2008, the Stadio Gaetano Bonolis Teramo Calcio has served as the venue for home football matches. Previously, the Stadio Comunale , which today has a capacity of 4,000 spectators, was only used by the local rugby club for home games. Teramo Calcio played in its history primarily at the third and fourth highest level in Italian football. At the end of the Lega Pro 2014/15 , the team ranked first in Girone B and thus celebrated promotion to the second-rate Serie B for the first time in the club's history . This means that the first second division matches will take place in the Stadio Gaetano Bonolis from summer 2015.

The Stadio Gaetano Bonolis has a capacity of 7,498 spectators. The stadium can be expanded to around 13,000 seats. It not only serves Teramo Calcio for home games, but has also hosted several concerts in its short history. Jovanotti , Pooh and Vasco Rossi , among others , played here in 2008 , and a year later Tiziano Ferro and Laura Pausini used the stadium for concerts. In 2012, Caparezza also performed. In addition to Teramo Calcio, the amateur club San Nicolò also plays its home games at Stadio Gaetano Bonolis. The arena takes its name from the decades-long club doctor of Teramo Calcio, Gaetano Bonolis. He worked as a doctor for the association from 1971 until his death in 2013. After his death, the stadium, previously called Stadio Comunale, was renamed Stadio Gaetano Bonolis in his honor .
