The Drusus Stadium ( Italian Stadio Druso ) is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Gries-Quirein district of the Italian city of Bozen , South Tyrol . The owner of the facility is the municipality of Bolzano. The playing field is 105 m × 63 m in size. The stadium offers 3,100 covered seats on two grandstands. The VIP sector and a separate area for press and television are located on the “Zanvettor” grandstand . The "Canazza" grandstand also houses the guest area for 600 spectators.
history
The venue is named after the Roman politician and military leader Nero Claudius Drusus , was opened at the end of 1930 and was created based on a project by the engineer Angelo Rossi. It is home to AC Bozen (today: FC Bozen 1996 ). FC Südtirol has also been using the sports facility for its home games since 2000 . Thanks to this team's promotion to Serie C2 (since 2008 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione ), the stadium was renovated for the last time. In 2002 the floodlights and the sound system were renewed.
The FC Südtirol, currently in Serie C (third league) wants in the Serie B rise. For this purpose, the Drusus Stadium is to be adapted to the requirements of the second division and converted into a pure football stadium according to plans by the Gerkan, Marg and Partner and Dejaco + Partner working group . The two existing tiers are to be moved closer to the playing field and extended. This would increase the available space from 3,100 to 5,400. The listed facade of the main stand would have to be integrated. Two more stands are to be built behind the gates and will then offer 10,000 seats in the stadium.
The foundation stone for the stadium renovation was laid on April 15, 2019 . The budget for the expansion to 5,000 places is around 15 million euros . With mobile seats, the venue could be expanded to 10,000. This is not yet planned for this construction phase. The existing tiers will be renovated and extended to the edge of the field, while the monumental facade of the main stand must be integrated. The construction work should not disrupt the ongoing game operations of FC Südtirol. The club should be able to play in the completed Drusus Stadium in 2021.
