The Lega Pro Seconda Divisione ( Serie C2 until 2008 ) was the fourth highest and thus lowest Italian professional football league until 2014 . The league was hosted by the Lega Italiana Calcio Professionistico , a subsidiary of the Italian Football Association, the FIGC . With the 2014/2015 season, the two divisions of Lega Pro were merged into a single league.
mode
The Lega Pro Seconda Divisione was divided into two seasons (Italian: Gironi) of 18 teams. In each season, the teams played against each other in a return match, so that one team played 34 games in the course of a season, half of which were at home and half away.
The allocation to the two seasons was usually based on geographic criteria. Most teams from northern and central Italy ( Liguria , Lombardy , Piedmont , Veneto , Emilia-Romagna , Tuscany etc.) play in Girone A. In Girone B, teams from central to southern Italy (e.g. Apulia , Calabria , Campania , Molise and Sicily ).
Promotion to the Lega Pro Prima Divisione
A total of six teams rose to the third division, three from each season. The top and the runner-up in the table rise directly, places 3 to 6 of each season played a play-off with semi-finals and final, in which the final winner rose. In the event of a tie, the better placed table rose, there was no away goal rule .
Relegation to Serie D
There were four teams relegated to Serie D, the last three in the table directly. Play-down games were carried out between the table fourteenth and the table fifteenth , with the loser also having to go to the fifth division. Due to reductions in the number of teams that played in a season or due to license withdrawals, modifications could be made.
