Aprilia is a town in the province of Latina in the Italian region of Lazio with 74,961 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

location
Aprilia is 42 km south of Rome and 27 km northwest of Latina .
It lies between the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Alban Mountains in the Pontine Plain . The districts of Campoverde, Campoleone, Campo di Carne and Carano belong to Aprilia. The ancient longula was excavated near the district of Buon Riposo .
The municipality extends over a height of 7 to 162 m slm
The community is located in earthquake zone 3 (little risk).
The neighboring parishes in clockwise direction are Nettuno ( RM ), Anzio (RM), Ardea (RM), Ariccia (RM), Lanuvio (RM), Velletri (RM), Cisterna di Latina and Latina .

history
Aprilia was the fourth city to be founded in the Pontine Marshes, which had been drained since 1930, after Littoria , Sabaudia and Pontinia . The city was founded by Benito Mussolini on April 25, 1936 and officially inaugurated on October 29, 1937. It got its name from its founding month April, or from the Venus Aprilia , the fertile Venus.
Located on a direct route between Anzio and Rome, Aprilia was the focus of the Battle of Rome in 1944 and was bombed by the Allies. (See Operation Shingle .)
After the Second World War, the city began to transform from an agricultural center to an industrial city.

politics
Mayor and City Council
Domenico D'Alessio ( Partito Socialista Italiano ) was elected mayor in June 2009. His alliance of citizen lists also has a majority in the municipal council with 18 out of 30 seats. His predecessor Calogero Santangelo (center-right list) was elected mayor for the second time in May 2006. After 19 local councilors expressed their distrust in January 2009, Santangelo resigned and paved the way for new elections on 6/7. June 2009 free.
Domenico D'Alessio died unexpectedly on February 26, 2012. He was represented by Antonio Terra until a new election. In 2013 Terra was elected mayor. When he was re-elected in June 2018, his list won 15 out of 22 seats.
