Sezze (pronunciation: set͡sə ) is an Italian city in the province of Latina in the Lazio region with 24,788 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
Sezze is 80 km southeast of Rome and 21 km northeast of Latina . It is located on a hill on the southern slope of the Monti Lepini above the Pontine plain . She is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Lepini e Ausoni .
Sezze includes the districts of Casali, Ceriara, Colli, Crocemoschitto and Foresta, which are located in the foothills of the Monti Lepini. The district of Sezze Scalo is located along the Roma – Formia – Napoli railway with the Sezze train station. Industry has also settled here.
Sezze can be reached by car via State Road 7 Via Appia or State Road 156 dei Monti Lepini from Latina to Frosinone.
history
According to legend, the ancient Setia is said to have been founded by Hercules . It was a Latin settlement . With the expansion of their territory, the place was expanded to the base of the Romans. 382 BC Setia became Colonia . 82 BC It was conquered by Sulla . After that it was the agricultural center and the location of numerous villas. In 956 AD Sezze declared itself a Free Commune. Popes Gregory VII , Paschal II and Lucius III. briefly resided in the city. In 1381 the Caetani took control of Sezze.
