The Varese Calcio SSD is a football club from Varese in northern Italy . The predecessor club FC Varese played in Serie A several times in the second half of the 1960s and in the first half of the 1970s . Due to economic problems, FC Varese announced in 2004 from the game operation, the AS Varese 1910 as a successor had to start again in the sixth division.

On March 22, 1910, the Varese Football Club was founded, which from 1914 participated in the Lega Regionale Lombarda . The club colors were initially white and purple, from 1926 red and white.
In the Masnago district, a stadium called Stadio del Littorio was built , which was renamed Stadio Franco Ossola in 1950 . Franco Ossola began his career at Varese and was later part of the successful Turin team that was killed in the Superga plane crash in 1949 .
Under the presidency of the entrepreneur Giovanni Borghi , FC Varese rose to Serie A in 1964, but was relegated again in 1966. The immediate ascent succeeded. In 1967/68 Varese took seventh place. In 1969 the team was relegated again, but was back in the top division after just one season. In the following game year, among others with Giovanni Trapattoni , the relegation succeeded, but in 1972 the next relegation followed. In 1974 the northern Italians made it to Serie A again, but had to leave after just one year.
In the following years things went downhill in sporting and economic terms. After the Fourth League 1992/93 season, the club volunteered only in the fifth top flight Serie D to. He won his group and furthermore the Amateur Cup, the Coppa Italia di Serie D . In 1998 Varese was promoted to Serie C1. In 2000 the team reached the play-offs for Serie B , but failed in the semifinals at AS Cittadella . 2004 Varese had to relegate again from the 3rd division, but more serious than the sporting failure were economic problems that were so serious that the FC Varese could not register for the game.
In July 2004 a successor club called AS Varese 1910 was founded, which was allowed to start in the 6th division ( Eccellenza ). Start-up difficulties meant that the club could not win its group. Because of his sporting merits in the past, he was nevertheless able to move up to Serie D.
The 2005/06 season was extremely successful for Varese 1910, three game days before the end of the season, the return to professional football could be celebrated.
