Federico Balzaretti (born December 6, 1981 in Turin , Italy ) is a former Italian football player .
Balzaretti was characterized above all by his speed and good technique.
Career
Defensive specialist Balzaretti played for Torino Calcio as a youth and started his professional career at Varese FC and AC Siena . In 2002 he returned to Torino and became a regular player in the series B .
In July 2005, the young defender moved to the record champions Juventus Turin in Serie A , the top Italian division. After he was initially not considered by coach Fabio Capello , Balzaretti came more often in the second half of the 2005/06 season .
After Juve had to relegate to Serie B in the summer of 2006 because of the 2005/06 manipulation scandal and many stars had left the club, Federico Balzaretti became a regular on the left under the new coach Didier Deschamps . He completed a total of 40 games in the season and was one of the main pillars of the team that managed to get promoted again.
In June 2007, Federico Balzaretti changed hands for 3.8 million euros to Fiorentina , where he in the Hinserie the 2007/08 season , however, came only six bets. In January 2008 he was signed for the same amount by the US Palermo and signed a contract with the Sicilian club until 2011 .
For the 2012/13 season Balzaretti moved within Serie A to AS Roma , where he signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2015.
On November 17, 2010 Balzaretti made his debut in the international match against Romania in the Squadra Azzurra .
