Eccellenza (Italian for excellence, in South Tyrol Oberliga) is the 5th football league in Italy, founded in 1991 . It is a regional league with 28 divisions organized geographically. 11 regions have a division. Piedmont , Aosta Valley , Veneto , Tuscany , Sicily , Latium , Emilia-Romagna and Campania have 2 divisions, Lombardy has 3 divisions.
Ascent and descent
After the regular season is complete, the top-ranked teams in each division automatically change to the Series D on.
Each division also allows another team to take part in national playoffs that take place in late May and early June. Some divisions directly select the runner-up team, while other divisions schedule a series of playoff games among the divisions' top teams to determine the national playoff contestants. As soon as the 28 national playoff participants have been determined, they will compete in the knockout system , and the 14 winners will take part in a second round, which will again be carried out in the knockout system. The 7 winners of the second round will also advance to Serie D. Another place in Serie D is awarded to the winner of the " Coppa Italia Dilettanti " (Italian Amateur Cup), which is a year-long competition between all Italian teams in the two leagues Eccellenza and Promozione (the 6th football league below) is. A total of 36 teams are promoted to replace the 36 relegated teams from Serie D.
