Luis Felipe Monti (born May 15, 1901 in Buenos Aires , Argentina , † September 9, 1983 ) was an Argentine - Italian football player .

Career

Luis Monti was a midfielder who was still called a half-forward in the World Cup system and began his career with the Boca Juniors . In 1924 he made his debut in the Argentine national football team , with which he won the Copa America in 1927 and the silver medal at the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam in 1928 . With Argentina he reached the final of the Football World Cup in 1930 , which he lost to Uruguay 2: 4. On July 15, 1930, he scored the Argentine's first World Cup goal against France.

In 1931, Monti moved from Argentina to Italy for Juventus Turin . At Juve , he won the Italian championship four times in a row with the legendary Quinquennio d'Oro team between 1932 and 1935 . The successes at Juventus led him to the Italian national football team . With Italy he won the 1934 World Cup on June 10, 1934 . He is the only player to have reached a World Cup final for two nations. In November 1934 he took part in the legendary international match against England, which went down in football history as the Battle of Highbury .
