Career
In the club
Enrique Guaita began his career in Argentina in 1927 with Estudiantes de La Plata . In 1933 he moved to AS Roma in Italy , where he was a regular for two seasons. In the season 1934-35 he scored 29 goals in 29 matches and was top scorer in Serie A . This hit yield is still the absolute Series A record for the championship with 16 teams. He scored a total of 43 times in 61 league appearances. His nickname Il Corsaro Nero ( The Black Corsair ) comes from this time , as the Roma played in black jerseys at that time.
In the summer of 1935, however, Guiata's career in Italy ended abruptly when he returned to his home country in order to avoid being drafted into the military and possibly fighting in the Italian-Ethiopian War . From 1936 to 1937 he was under contract with Racing Club Avellaneda , between 1938 and 1939 Enrique Guaita played again at Estudiantes de La Plata.
In the national team
Guaita was one of twelve players who played for both the Argentine and Italian national teams in their careers . For Argentina, he made four international matches and scored one goal. For the Squadra Azzurra he was ten times on the field and scored five hits.
At the 1934 World Cup , which was held in Italy, Guaita was in Italy's squad , played four of the five games and scored the winning goal in the semi-final against Austria to make it 1-0. He brought Vittorio Pozzos Azzurri to the final against Czechoslovakia , which they won 2-1 after extra time.
He also played for Italy when he won the European National Team Cup 1933–1935 .
