Pedro Waldemar Manfredini (born September 7, 1935 in Maipú , † January 21, 2019 in Rome , Italy ) was an Argentine football player ; he played in the center forward position .

His nickname was Piedone (in German: 'big foot'). He got this nickname because of a photo that showed his right foot oversized because of a mistake; this although he had a fairly normal foot size with a shoe size of 43.

During his prime in the 1960s, Manfredini was a true goal machine and was therefore also a member of the Argentine national soccer team. A particular specialty of Manfredini was scoring hat tricks . So he achieved z. B. against the local rivals Lazio Rome in a memorable game all three goals for AS Roma and thus led his team to victory.

Club career

Manfredini began his career at the Argentine club Racing Club de Avellaneda . For the 1958/59 season Manfredini, who was completely unknown in Italy at the time, moved to AS Roma for 78,000,000 lire , where he subsequently played a total of seven seasons. Right from the start he was able to convince in Rome, having already scored 15 goals in his first season. During this time he was one of the most successful goal scorers in Serie A , he scored many of his goals by first dribbling out half of the opposing defense before sinking the ball into the goal untenable. So it was no wonder that Manfredini was extremely popular with Roma fans. As a result, Manfredini now scored fewer goals and was therefore less used, which is why he moved to Brescia Calcio for the 1965/66 season. But here he could not assert himself sustainably, which is why he moved to AC Venice after only one season , where he ended his career as a professional footballer.

Life after professional football

After hanging up his football boots, Manfredini opened a bar called Piedone in Piazzale Clodio in Rome . As a result, Manfredini lived in Ostia , where he later ran a football school.
