Bruno Giordano (born August 13, 1956 in Rome ) is a former Italian player and coach .
Career as a player
Bruno Giordano played in the position of the striker. He started his career in 1975 with Lazio Rome and played for the club for a total of 10 years. In the following years he played for SSC Napoli , Ascoli Calcio and FC Bologna . During his time in Naples he formed together with Diego Armando Maradona and Careca the so-called "Ma-Gi-Ca" line of attack (Maradona-Giordano-Careca) , which led Naples to two Italian championships and a UEFA Cup victory. In 319 games in Serie A , he scored 110 goals.
He played 13 times for the Italian national team, scoring one goal.
Career as a coach
In contrast to his career as a player, his work as a coach was not very successful for a long time. He worked for various lower-class clubs, but was mostly dismissed after a short time.
For the 2006/07 season he was hired by Serie A club FC Messina . After a successful start to the season, the team slumped to a relegation zone and finally Giordano was sacked on January 30, 2007, after the fans in particular put pressure on the club's management.
Curiously, on April 2, 2007, he took over the coaching post from his successor Alberto Cavasin , who was unable to put the team back on the road to success.
He was released on April 23 after three defeats in three games.
Quote in art
In the French documentary Maradona, the golden boy by Jean-Christophe Rosé, Naples won this championship and a short interview that Maradona conducted with Giordano is shown.
