Roberto Bettega (born December 27, 1950 in Turin ) is a former Italian football player .
Bettega was considered one of the strongest strikers in the world in his prime . Almost his entire career he was under contract with Juventus Turin . He was nicknamed penna bianca ( the white feather ) because of his gray hair at a young age .
Career
Alongside Paolo Rossi, Bettega was the great star striker of Juventus Turin in the 1970s and 1980s. Coming straight from Juventus' youth department, he played 326 Serie A games over the course of his career , scoring 129 goals. As a player, he won several Italian championships and the UEFA Cup . The striker finished fourth with Italy at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina . He played all seven games and scored two goals. He also took fourth place at the 1980 European Football Championship in his own country (4 appearances). However, he did not experience the great triumph of Italian football due to injury. In 1982 his colleagues became world champions without the Juve star .
After his active career, which he ended in 1984, he switched to sports management . He initially worked briefly at Toronto Blizzard , where he mainly gained business experience. After returning from Canada , he took on management positions at Juventus and also worked as a football commentator . Since 1995 he has been vice president of the association. He represents Juventus on all international issues, in particular he is Juventus' representative at the G-14 .
In management he made up for successes that he had missed as a player, including winning the Champions League , the European Super Cup and the World Cup .
