Helir-Valdor Seeder
Helir-Valdor Seeder (born September 7, 1964 in Viljandi , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . He is a member of Isamaa ja Res Publica Liit (IRL), of which he has been chairman since 2017. Seeder was Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Estonia from April 2007 to March 2014.
Life
Early years
Helir-Valdor Seeder graduated from school in Viljandi in 1979. Until 1983 he received training at the pilot plant of the model collective farm " Yuri Gagarin ". He then studied economics at the Estonian Agricultural University in Tartu until 1990 . In 1990/91 he worked as a teacher in the Vana-Võidu Technical Center ( Viljandi County ).
Politician
In 1995, Seeder joined the right-wing conservative party Isamaaliit (Union of Fatherland), which later became part of Isamaa ja Res Publica Liit (IRL). From 1991 to 2003 he held various posts in Viljandi County, including economic advisor to the Viljandi Municipality (1991/92), Deputy Mayor (1992), Lord Mayor of the city (1992/93) and District Administrator of Viljandi County (1993-2003) . From 2003 to 2007 Helir-Valdor Seeder was a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ).
After the parliamentary elections in 2007 , Prime Minister Andrus Ansip appointed him Minister of Agriculture in his second cabinet in April 2007 . After the election in 2011 , Ansip III took over this post in the following cabinet . With the end of the coalition between the Reform Party and the IRL in March 2014, Valdor-Seeder left the government.
After the general election in 2015 , Helir-Valdor Seeder had been Vice President of the Riigikogu since the end of March 2015 . On May 13, 2017, he was elected chairman of the IRL, but subsequently did not take on a ministerial post, as is usually the case, but instead chaired the parliamentary group.
Private
Helir-Valdor Seeder is married and has four sons.
