The Estonian University of Environmental Sciences ( Estonian : Eesti Maaülikool ) is a state university based in the Estonian city of Tartu . In 2005 the university had around 4600 students.
The university has its roots in the University of Tartu , which was founded in 1632. It became an independent university in 1951 and was then called the Estonian Agricultural Academy . In 1991 it was renamed the Estonian Agricultural University and was finally given its current name in 2004.
