The Estonian Naval Academy ( Estonian : Eesti Mereakadeemia ) is a state naval academy and military facility that trains prospective officers in the Estonian Navy and the Estonian Coast Guard . It is based in the northwestern Kopli district ( Põhja-Tallinn district ) of Tallinn , the capital and port city of Estonia .
The Estonian Naval Academy as a university of applied sciences was founded on November 1, 1991 and was divided into the three departments of marine science , marine technology and navigation . At the beginning of the 2000s, around 100 teachers and academic employees trained around 900 students there. On August 1, 2014, the Naval Academy became part of the Tallinn University of Technology , with some areas being outsourced to an independent vocational school ( Eesti Merekool ).
