The Tallinn University of Technology (short name: TalTech , short name previously: TTÜ and TPI (Estonian), TUT (international); Estonian Tallinna Tehnikaülikool ) is the only Technical University in Estonia .

history

In 1918 the engineering school of the Estonian Engineering Society was founded because the country did not have its own engineering education. In 1919 the engineering school became a private college and in 1920 the state took over the institution. Since 1936 "Tallinn Technical Institute", albeit with university status, the college became a technical university in 1938.

There are several sculptures and monuments on the site. The eternal student Julius , unveiled in 2008, is striking in front of the university entrance. The Seebeck memorial was inaugurated in 2013 .

Well-known members of the university

In addition to the country's entire technical elite, the university's alumni and professors also include numerous industrialists and business people, including a. the president of Hansabank , the largest bank in the Baltic States, Indrek Neivelt; the chairman of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry , Toomas Luman; and the former prime minister and important industrialist Tiit Vähi . The President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences , Jüri Engelbrecht, is also a member of TUT.
