Rolando Maran (born July 14, 1963 in Trento ) is a former Italian football player and today's coach .

Career

As a player

Maran spent most of his playing career at AC Chievo Verona , playing 280 league games, many as captain, and scoring 11 goals. With Chievo Maran rose in the 1988/89 season of the series C2 as first place in the series C1 . In the 1993/94 season he was able to celebrate the promotion with his club again. Maran also played for Benacense Riva , ACD Trissino-Valdagno , Carrarese Calcio and Alma Juventus Fano in 1906 . In 1997 he ended his career. As a player, Maran stood out for his header game.

As a trainer

Maran began his coaching career at Chievo Verona in the 1997/98 season as an assistant coach. He then coached the youth teams of Brescia Calcio and AS Cittadella . In 2002 he was first head coach at Citadella and coached the club until 2005, before moving back to Brescia, this time as head coach, but was dismissed in 2006. Maran then moved to FC Bari in 1908 , but was also sacked here after disappointing results. After several intermediate stops with moderate success, he hired on June 11, 2012 at Calcio Catania , who were playing in Serie A at that time . With Catania, Maran reached 8th place in the 2012/13 season and scored 56 points, the highest number of points Catania has ever achieved in Serie A. On October 20, 2013, Maran was initially dismissed with five points from eight games after a weak start to the 2013/14 season , but was hired again on January 15, 2014. After five defeats in a row, he was released again on April 6 and presented as the new coach at Chievo Verona on October 19, 2014. He signed a contract until the end of the season.

Maran was released from his duties at Chievo Verona at the end of April 2018.

From the 2018/19 season he trains Cagliari Calcio . On March 3, 2020, he was released after twelve consecutive games without a win.

Maran became head coach of CFC Genoa at the end of August 2020 as the successor to Davide Nicola .
